FLOOR CARE

Carpet

It is advised to vacuum on a weekly basis. Make sure you set the height properly as that can mean the difference between picking up a lot of debris or not. If you have to clean up a stain, make sure to blot it and apply small amounts of pressure to using a cleaning solution in order to avoid spreading the stain into the carpet fibers. It is recommended to get a professional hot water extraction every 12-18 months in order to clean your carpet and restore some of its deformed shape from all of the foot traffic on it.

Hardwood

The recommendation is to sweep weekly in order to keep rid of dust particles and to utilize a hardwood spray cleaner with a terry cloth dust mop. It is not advised to use a sponge mop or a water solution when cleaning as it could degrade the floor and cause permanent damage.

Laminate

It is generally recommended to sweep, dust, or vacuum the floor regularly to keep dirt and grit off of it. Use the hard wood attachment when sweeping and adjust vacuums accordingly. If you want to avoid irreparable damage, you will want to avoid steam cleaners or wet mops. Avoid using anything like steel wool, strong ammoniated type or abrasive cleaners. Do not wash your laminate with soap or water variants and to only use liquid cleaners. Make sure if a spill does happen that you blot it up as soon as possible, you should never let liquids stand on the floor.

Tile

Sweep or vacuum your tile floor regularly in order to keep any debris from accumulating on it and to keep them from getting dull. Dirt might not always be an issue for some, like Ceramic, but sand and other grit can still glaze the surfaces. Avoid using a sponge mop and clean your tiles with mild detergent and clean water with a rag or chamois-type mop. If you spot any discoloration, figure out what caused it and use the appropriate cleaner to remove it and restore color.

Vinyl / Luxury Vinyl

You should start a weekly, or even daily, sweeping routine, using a soft broom or anything of that sorts. You have to get any dirt off before it grounds in and if you keep up with that, you'll allow your vinyl to last longer and look great. Make sure to use the right cleaners, which is usually based around if your vinyl requires waxing. You obviously should not use a no-wax cleaner on a waxed floor. Try to avoid drenching your vinyl in water, when cleaning, as the water can seep between the seams and tear apart glue bonds, making the integrity of the floor weaker. To keep from scratching, you should put protective "feet" on all heavy pieces of furniture as the weight can permanently dent your floor.
